Sketch

Scanned in the original sketch from my sketch book and set it up in Manga Studio 5. Lower the opacity and open another layer to start inking.

Lineart

Ink the character and make sure the areas that need to be symmetrical are.

Lineart

I get rid of the underlying sketch and draw the graffiti on a new layer of its own.

Lineart, Composition

On a layer behind the other lineart layers I draw a dumpster and trash can (each on their own layer) and then copy/paste them over and flip them to make a symmetrical image. I set the lineart of the trash cans and dumpsters to a dark green in order to make the character and graffiti pop out more.

Color

I then set up a layer for colour and start on the skin. I base out my normal colour first as a flat then decide on my light source and begin to shade. My colouring style has the shading and highlight on the same layer as the normal colour.

Color

I then begin to do the flats then go over with shading as I colour.

Color

After I go back and add in the necessary details and highlights as well as colour in the eyes which I always leave for last.

Color

After I create another layer behind everything and flat colour in the trash cans and dumpsters with only a second colour for some slight shading. I don't go any further because I feel it would muddle the image.

Complete

I then make new layers for the graffiti colour and the background and finish those. This image is one of my favourites because it's a very good showcase of my style in both line and colouring as well as colour choices.
